Primetime Matchups This Weekend – August 3rd

1) The first game we’re looking at takes place on the diamond, as two start studded lineups face off on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Divisional foes LA and SD will be on the ballet as the Dodgers look to continue their dominance, while the Padres look to stay red hot and get back into the Wild Card race. Both teams bolstered their depth heavily at the deadline. Expect the big names like Soto, Bogaerts, TatIs Jr, Betts, and Freeman to showcase plenty of pop. This 4-game set concludes on Monday, so I’d advise you tuning into all of them! Who knows, we could get lucky and have this as a playoff series further down the line.

2) The second sporting event we are looking at also takes place on the diamond, as two unexpected teams look to bolster their playoff hopes! Both the Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins did not garner enough hype coming into the year; however, the whole baseball world is now on notice. In a series that’s sure to showcase plenty of runs, we decided our favorite matchup takes place on Saturday. Newcomer Jordan Montgomery toes the rubber at home for the Rangers, while rising star Jesus Luzardo will be on the bump for the Fish. Although this is an interleague series, it is CRUCIAL for both teams. The Rangers are looking to stave off the fiery Astros, while the Marlins look to keep pace in a tight NL Wild Card race.

3) The final matchup takes us to the Women’s World Cup, where you must wake up extra early (or record) the Round of 16, 5:00 AM matchup between Sweden and our beloved USWNT! Airing on Fox, the Americans look to avenge their most recent match which ended in a tie. Although it wasn’t what we hoped for, the US squeaked its way into the next round and keeps its championship hopes alive.
